Since Shawn has CP and is completely unable to communicate, this is what I imagine an exchange would look like if he were able. He is very fond of his mother, who has taken care of him full time due to his condition, so I thought he would be most likely to have a meaningful conversation with her. I imagine that he would talk to her about the new girl that he likes because I think that if he were able to talk he would share things like that with his mom. He just met his sister's friend Ally, and he has not been able to stop thinking about her. She was kind to him, and she is beautiful. She has made him realize what love could be like. I think he would also express some of his fears about his father with her, but that would be more subtle since he is not sure himself of his dad's motives. Realistically, if I were doing this for a grade I would probably not use this option since I don't have any dialogue examples in my book to go off of. However, for the sake of giving you an example of what you could choose to do, here goes:
Shawn: Hi Mom, whatcha doin?
Mom: Honey, I am downstairs in the living room
Shawn: I know but I wanted to talk to you about something
Mom: OK?
Mom: If you are going to give me bad news DO NOT do it via text
Shawn: It's not bad news, I swear
Mom: Alright hon, sorry, go for it
Shawn: I think I'm in love...
Mom: adsfhuadwbjdaiodfqh
Mom: Who is she, tell me everything?!!!!
Mom: Nevermind, I'm coming upstairs
Shawn: DO NOT COME UP HERE
Shawn: It's Ally
Mom: Cindy's friend?
Shawn: Yes! Mom she was so nice to me. And she's so pretty. Do you think I have a shot?
Mom: I don't know bud, you'll just have to give it some time and get to know her. Be your kind, smart, funny self and what is meant to be will be,
Shawn: Thanks mom, very poetic. Also, generic.
Shawn: One more thing...
Mom: ?
Shawn: What do you think of Dad's new writing gig? The child murderer?
Mom: Well, darling, I think your father is trying to channel his emotions into something that will bring awareness to the public, and hopefully bring closure for him. You know he has had a difficult time these last few years.
Shawn: Yea, he can't handle my CP. Try being me.
Shawn: Do you think he really loves me?
Mom: Yes of course! Don't get down on your dad because of his choices, all we can do is what's best for ourselves. And right now that includes dinner. I'll be up to get you in a minute.
Shawn: K, thanks again Mom :)
